If you are a wildlife enthusiast or conservation professional with a foundational understanding of wildlife conservation, even without formal training or experience in wildlife biology, here’s your chance to join the 9th Course on Wildlife Conservation for Wildlife Enthusiasts, organized by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
This course, scheduled from 17th to 26th March 2025, offers five days of classroom sessions at WII, followed by a five-day field visit to a Protected Area (PA) near Dehradun, where participants will gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation practices.
A total of 20 participants will be selected for the course. The fee for the program is Rs. 35,000 per person, covering food, accommodation at both WII and the field site, and travel between the two locations. At WII, accommodation will be provided on a twin-sharing basis, and at the field site, participants will stay in tented or shared Forest Rest House accommodations, as per the statement from the WII.
Applications must be submitted by February 20, 2025 to the Course Director, Dr. R. Selected participants will need to sign an indemnity bond and must be medically fit. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate.
The course will feature lectures by WII faculty and expert researchers, covering important topics such as Indian biogeography, wildlife conservation challenges, large mammal management, wildlife crime, and the role of citizen science in conservation.
In addition to the classroom sessions, participants will embark on a five-day field visit to a Protected Area near Dehradun in Uttarakhand, engaging in treks, wildlife observations, and discussions on wildlife management, habitat restoration, and socio-economic challenges faced by Protected Area managers. During the first week, participants will also have a day trip to Asan Conservation Reserve and the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, as per the statement.
