Punjab Police and SaveLIFE Foundation has joined hands to boost road safety across the State. The MoU was signed between Punjab Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) AS Rai and Founder and CEO of SaveLIFE Foundation Piyush Tewari, in the presence of Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.

The aim is to enhance road safety throughout the state, encompassing district roads, state highways, national highways, and expressways, while establishing and promoting best practices to protect the lives of road users.

As part of this partnership, SaveLIFE Foundation shall identify the most critical districts and corridors in the state and transform them into safe zones under its Zero Fatality Solutions (ZFS) program.

The ZFS model integrates a range of solutions – from infrastructure changes to trauma care initiatives – echoing the global Vision Zero strategy that prioritises human life.

These solutions are also tailored to local contexts, and often designed in collaboration with communities. Rai said, “In the past year, the Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) set up in the State has brought a remarkable drop in fatalities. This partnership with SaveLIFE will enable us to further strengthen our efforts.”

Punjab is the only state in the country that has reversed the trend of an increasing number of accidental deaths, he said.

The number of deaths in road accidents in the area covered by the Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF) has come down by 48 per cent while across the state, there has been a 5-per cent decrease in the number of such fatalities, Rai said.

SaveLIFE Foundation will also implement its Zero Fatality District toolkit by providing training, capacity building, and program support to district leadership in Punjab. Additionally, it will conduct scientific forensic investigations of critical and mass-casualty road crashes in the state, supporting relevant agencies in addressing identified issues and overseeing the necessary monitoring and evaluation of interventions.

Tewari said, “SaveLIFE Foundation will also recommend requisite road safety interventions and other steps to enable competent post-crash response and emergency medical services in the state.
