New Delhi: In the run-up to National Cancer Awareness Day last week, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, organised a public lecture in the national capital on the theme “Prevention to Palliation.”

The programme underscored the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, advances in treatment, and the need for comprehensive supportive and palliative care.

More than 300 students from various Kendriya Vidyalaya schools under the Delhi Region also attended the event.

The event also witnessed the participation of ASHA workers, teachers, Parents, students, cancer survivors, caregivers, and the general public, reaffirming collective commitment to early detection, healthy living, and compassionate cancer care.

According to recent estimates, the most common cancers in India are head and neck (oral), breast, lung, colorectal, and stomach cancers. Overall, about 1.46 million new cases were estimated for 2022, with breast cancer being the most prevalent among women and oral and lung cancers among men.

Other significant cancers in the country are cervical, liver, ovary, and esophageal cancer, as per various reports.
