NEW DELHI: The SC/ST Employees Welfare Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi organised a commemorative programme on the 135th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar at the JLN Auditorium recently, bringing together faculty members, staff and students in a tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution.

The event was attended by senior officials of the institute, including the Director as chief guest, along with Additional Medical Superintendent Dr. Mahesh R, Liaison Officer (Scheduled Tribe) Dr. V. Darlong, and Presiding Officer Dr. Pranay Tanwar, among others. Representatives of various staff unions and associations also participated in large numbers.

The programme began with the felicitation of dignitaries, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Dr. Ambedkar. Speakers highlighted his enduring contribution to social justice, constitutional values and nation-building, underlining the continued relevance of his ideas in contemporary India.

A special lecture by Dr. Batti Lal Bairwa of the University of Delhi focused on themes of equality and social inclusion, drawing attention to the need for sustained efforts to address structural inequalities in society. The lecture was followed by interactive discussions, with participants reflecting on the role of institutions in advancing inclusive growth.

Cultural performances formed an integral part of the programme. A stage play depicting key moments from Dr. Ambedkar’s life, along with group dances and musical presentations, conveyed messages of education, empowerment and social harmony. Organisers said such activities were aimed at engaging younger audiences while reinforcing the values associated with Ambedkar’s legacy.

Prizes were also distributed to winners of competitions organised in the run-up to the event. The gathering concluded with a vote of thanks and a community lunch.

Speaking on the occasion, Association president Lokesh Kumar said Dr. Ambedkar’s vision continues to guide efforts towards building an equitable society. General secretary Anil Tejwan noted that the strong participation reflected the deep respect for his legacy and the importance of collective responsibility in upholding his ideals.

The programme ended with a reiteration of Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring call — “Educate, Agitate, Organise” — a message that continues to resonate across generations.
