APPLICATION OF RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION (RFI) FOR DAIRY CATTLE MANAGEMENT

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology uses radio waves to identify people or objects. There is a device that reads information contained in a wireless device or “tag” from a distance without making any physical contact or requiring a line of sight. Radiofrequency identification (RFID) is a technology that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the radio frequency (RF) portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to identify an object, animal or person uniquely. RFID is coming into increasing use in industry as an alternative to the bar code. The advantage of RFID is that it does not require direct contact or line-of-sight scanning.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology uses electronic tags attached to animals, equipment, or crops to transmit data wirelessly to a reader, allowing farmers to monitor an animal’s location, movement, and health. RFID technology is quick, easy, and accurate. It can help farmers improve herd management, disease control, and safety. RFID tags can also record simple farming tasks and monitor individual performance data like weaning weights.

RFID tags can help farmers identify potential problems, such as illness or injury, and respond quickly to ensure the well-being of their animals. There are three different types of RFID devices, or electronic tags, used in the identification of livestock. These are electronic ear tags, injectable transponders and bolus tags, the choice being dependent upon the type of animal and any legislative controls
